Journalist Craig Hope has shared news that Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak will be out until at least the New Year.

The striker sustained a thigh injury while on international duty in September and after a setback in his recovery Eddie Howe said that he wouldn’t feature until after the World Cup.

The 23-year-old scored on his debut at Anfield before adding a second in a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth but didn’t feature in the Magpies’ friendly with Rayo Vallecano on Saturday afternoon.

It seems as if Toon supporters will need to wait that bit longer to see their club-record signing return to action.

Speaking on his YouTube channel Hope said: “Now listen, the big news to come out of this (Rayo Vallecano game) and we’ve just spoken to Eddie Howe downstairs is that it looks like Alexander Isak won’t be available for the entirety of the Christmas period, probably into the New Year.”

TIF Thoughts on Isak and Newcastle…

Are you worried about Isak's injury issues?

Given that Hope also raised questions surrounding the fitness of Callum Wilson, Isak’s unavailability will likely cause concern around Tyneside.

It appears that the Swede’s injury could be a recurrence of an issue he sustained last season while at Real Sociedad and fans will be hoping that it doesn’t persist.

It is now a possibility that Chris Wood will have to lead the line over the festive period which may halt Newcastle’s top-four charge.

The centre-forward has scored just four goals in 33 games since his move last January and it will be interesting to see how the club manage the return to action given their injury problems.
