Aston Villa left-back Lucas Digne has posted a cryptic message on his Instagram feed which could well point to an imminent return.
Digne was initially sidelined with a heel injury that he sustained while on international duty at the end of September.
The Frenchman was forced to withdraw from the squad, with manager Steven Gerrard calling the issue “complicated”, while medical expert Ben Dinnery of Premier FPL Injuries said last week that he would be out for an “undefinable period of time”.
However, taking to Instagram, Digne has seemingly confirmed his impending comeback with an empty hourglass predicting that his time on the shelf is over.
TIF Thoughts on Digne and Aston Villa…
Do Aston Villa need a new left-back?YesNo |
With Ludwig Augustinsson also injured, Ashley Young deputised for the West Midlanders on Monday night at Nottingham Forest.
The former Manchester United man rolled back the years by scoring a stunner in the 1-1 draw, but with sterner tests on the horizon, having his first-choice left-back available once again will be a welcome sight for Gerrard.
According to WhoScored, Digne ranks third for most clearances and interceptions per 90 minutes at the club this season as well as fourth for tackles and blocks.
Going forward, he had also been a prominent feature prior to his injury and leads the club for crosses and is fifth for key passes.
With a tough run of fixtures to come ahead of the mid-season break, Villa will need a full-strength squad and it will be interesting to see if Digne is back for the visit of Chelsea this weekend.
