Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg has revealed Bayern Munich are on the verge of signing Konrad Laimer in the summer.

Laimer has been immensely important to RB Leipzig since he arrived from Red Bull Salzburg in 2017, going on to feature 167 times in Saxony whilst being an important versatile option, with the Austrian deployed in six different positions during his time there.

It now looks like the 25-year-old’s spell is set to come to an end as Bayern close in on a free transfer, with his £50k-per-week contract set to expire in the summer and no extension penned, while Plettenberg has revealed via Twitter that the Bavarians have almost sealed the deal.

The journalist tweeted: “He is on verge to join Bayern in summer! Verbal agreement in total but no medical yet. Signing in 2023. He will get a long-term contract. At least until 2027. Absolutely desired player! Versatile use (central/right), pressing machine, mentality!”

TIF Thoughts on Laimer to Bayern…

The Bundesliga champions are the dominant force in Germany and have sustained that over the years by hoovering up the rest of the league’s brightest talents – and it seems the 24-cap Austrian is next.

Julian Nagelsmann already has a plethora of midfield talent available to him, so much so that €24m (£20.7m) summer signing Ryan Gravenberch has featured for just 177 minutes in the league this season.

This could mean that Laimer’s versatility may see him feature elsewhere if he is to get guaranteed minutes at the Allianz Arena, and his 24 appearances at right-back for Leipzig could be utilised by his former Leipzig boss in Bavaria, with Benjamin Pavard having previously considered leaving Munich.
