In an exclusive interview with This is Futbol, former Wigan Athletic and Derby County manager Paul Jewell has backed Eddie Howe to not take the Celtic managerial job if he feels it’s not a good fit for him.

Howe had been identified as Celtic’s preferred choice for the job, however, he has continued to stall over taking the role and his representatives have confirmed he won’t be taking any new job until at least the summer.

Who should Celtic appoint as manager?

Howe!

Howe!

Keane!

Keane!

In recent days Celtic have reignited talks with former player Roy Keane, who has not been a manager since he left Ipswich Town back in 2011 when they were 19th in the Championship.

Speaking on why Eddie Howe is right to be coy over becoming Celtic manager and how it would be a worse decision to rush into something, Jewell told This is Futbol:

Sometimes you go into a football club and I’ve experienced it myself, once you sign a contract and you get in you realise that you’ve probably made a mistake.

Maybe he just doesn’t get the right feel for the job and that’s important, so he’s better off saying that now rather than after he’s signed the contract. If he doesn’t fancy going to Celtic then he’s right not to take the job.”

Who is Celtic's club record signing?

Celtic have been on the hunt for Neil Lennon’s replacement since he left the club back in February with the Hoops all but surrendering their SPFL title to Rangers.

It’s been a poor season for Celtic who lost another Old Firm derby against Rangers 2-0 last weekend, and also missed a penalty.
