Celtic supporters have been reacting on Facebook to claims made over Hoops striker Leigh Griffiths.
The 30-year-old striker has bagged seven goals in 24 appearances for the Glasgow giants this season, including a late equaliser against Aberdeen last time out.
Fans have voiced their opinions over the future of Griffiths, and have continued to react following claims Celtic would regret it if they choose not to activate a one-year extension clause in his contract.
Ex-Scotland manager Alex McLeish, who issued the claim, believes Kyle Lafferty’s recent form at Kilmarnock shows why the Hoops should keep faith with their ageing striker and prolong his stay with the Hoops.
As reported by The Scottish Sun, the Hoops have until the end of April to trigger an extension clause in the Scotland international’s deal, which would keep him at Celtic Park until the summer of 2022.
Asked if he would keep the striker for another campaign, McLeish told Football Insider: “I would say they have to. At the moment, there’s nobody who has come in. Nobody has come in and said: ‘New broom, sweep it clean. We’re going to get rid of five or six,’ and the new man brings in his own men.
“Then perhaps Leigh could be a victim there. But I would have thought he would have been extremely handy to keep around. I think there’s a good example of an experienced striker doing well when you look at Kilmarnock in recent weeks, Kyle Lafferty. He’s been banging them in.”
McLeish’s comments led to the Celtic Insider Facebook page asking the fanbase whether they wanted to keep Griffiths for another season, and their response was fairly emphatic.
Griffiths has won seven league titles, two Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups during his time at Celtic, and his experience could prove pivotal in their fight to regain their domestic crowns next season.
