Leeds United fans on Twitter have been sharing their praise for Whites defender Pascal Struijk and his latest appearance for the Yorkshire club during their recent 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the Premier League.
This comes after Leeds journalist James Marshment shared a post on his Twitter page after the match against the Red Devils saying that there were “no frills” from Struijk in the game and that “he’s become a rock-solid defender and it’s his shirt to lose now,” in terms of his place in the team.
Marshment continued to praise the centre-back in his tweet following the game, which stretched Leeds’ unbeaten run to six games, having come through tests against Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United unscathed.
This post then gathered a lot of replies from Leeds fans who were quick to share their thoughts on what Marshment had to say about Struijk.
So, what did these Leeds fans have to say in response to Marshment’s comments on Struijk?
“He is absolutely class at centre half. He has the ability to make it to the very highest level.”
“He was the standout in that back four today, just so calm in everything he does. More great work from Orta.”
“I really hope Bielsa doesn’t just throw Cooper in because he’s available. Struijk has earned his place with some excellent performances. Cooper should have to earn his way back now – captain or not.”
“Struijk has to keep his place now”
“He was everywhere today, his best performance of season certainly”
“I remember he started home to Wolves was uncomfortable, then all over the place against Palace. To bounce back from that had been remarkable. And a good goal threat at corners also”
Leeds signed Struijk to their U23 squad back in the 2018 January transfer window from Ajax’s U19 side. Since then, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £6.3 million, has made 29 appearances for Bielsa’s side, with 22 of them coming in the Premier League this season (per Transfermarkt).
In terms of his performance against Manchester United, the fact that Leeds Live gave him a match rating of 9/10 for his display and said that this was “another thrilling chapter in one of the stories of the season at Elland Road,” and that he “goes from strength to strength against some of the best attackers in the world,” with some “exceptional” passing, it’s understandable why Marshment and these Leeds fans are impressed with him.
Is Pascal Struijk Leeds' best centre-back?
Yes
No
In our view, if Struijk can keep this level of performance up from now until the end of the season, he would surely be in with a shout of being Leeds’ best centre-backs.
