Lyon are in talks with Wolves over signing defender Rúben Vinagre, according to O Jogo.

The Portuguese newspaper claim that the French club are interested in Wolves’ left-back as they’re seeking a replacement for Ferland Mendy who they recently sold to Real Madrid.

O Jogo report that Lyon have started talks with Wolves about having a “buy-in” prospect regarding Vinagre, which means a loan with an option to buy, but there’s no mention of whether Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are keen on agreeing a deal.

Good move for Wolves?

No, unless Lyon are thinking of splashing an unimaginable sum on Vinagre, after all they did just get £47.1million (Source: BBC Sport) from Real Madrid for Mendy.

Vinagre featured 21 times for Wolves last season and showed glimpses of his potential, so it would seem silly to let him go anytime soon.

At the age of 20-years-old, Vinagre is still set to get better and the Premier League club will end up kicking themselves if they sell him anytime soon.

Likely to happen?

Lyon do need a new left-back after losing Mendy and it would be believable that they would target a young flyer like Vinagre.

O Jogo point out that Lyon view Vinagre as a player who could compete with Fernando Marçal for a place in their first-team, so given he wouldn’t be automatic first-choice then they may not be willing to table a lucrative offer to get him.

Also Wolves are clearly a club trying to constantly make progress and move forward, so it’s hard to see them agreeing to part with one of their potential stars of the future.
