After a patchy start to the season, Arsenal have managed to pull it together since the New Year. Defeats to Southampton, Tottenham and Monaco aside (that last one really hurt), The Gunners have been in imperious form, wiping out anybody who has been placed in their path.
If Arsenal can keep everybody fit next season (or at the very least, avoid having such a poor injury record), they’ll be in with a good shot of adding to their silverware collection. If they can add a few more world class players to their squad, who knows what they’ll be capable of?
According to The Metro, Arsenal are in the market for a little more quality. In fact, it looks like Arsene Wenger is ready and willing to splash some cash.
The source claims that Arsenal are hoping to seal deals for Paris Saint Germain’s star striker, Edinson Cavani, Southampton’s rugged midfielder, Morgan Schneiderlin and Chelsea’s sidelined keeper, Petr Cech.
This trio will provide Arsenal with an interesting mix, but they won’t come cheap either. It’s thought that they would cost as much as £85m. Still, it’s worth noting that all three players are capable of justifying their price-tag.
Edinson Cavani would be the big acquisition here. He’s one of the best strikers in the world and his goal-scoring record speaks for itself. Since moving to Paris, he’s scored 40 goals in 71 games. He was even better during his time at Napoli, when he found the back of the net 104 times in 138 games.
Schneiderlin will add a little more steel to Arsenal’s midfield, whilst providing Francis Coquelin with some major competition (The Gunners would suffer in a big way if he were to pick up an injury or a long term suspension).
Then there’s Petr Cech. With Wojciech Szczesny’s mentality currently in question and David Ospina failing to convince, The Gunners may well be on the hunt for a fresh option. Chelsea’s second choice keeper looks like a good fit, given his current circumstances.
£85m is a huge amount of money, but in this case, I can’t help but feel that it would be money well spent.
What’s your take? Do Arsenal need to make this big an investment in their squad?
