Manchester United have spent a lot of money on their midfield over the last two seasons, but they’ve struggled to bring in the right players. Whilst footballers like Marouane Fellaini and Juan Mata are good on paper, they been inconsistent on the football pitch. They lack the dynamism that is necessary for The Red Devils to excel.
Indeed, with Manchester United attempting to get back on the pathway to success, this is likely to be an area that Louis Van Gaal will re-assess during the summer transfer window. Indeed, The Metro recently published an article claiming that he’s in the market for Borussia Monchegladbach’s star midfielder, Patrick Herrmann,
Patrick Hermann has no caps for the German international side, but if he continues to develop at his current rate, it won’t be too long until he breaks into that particular set-up. The competition is fierce, but he’s a player that’s set for big things.
He’s played 33 games this season and he’s found the back of the net 13 times. He’s now 24-years-old, so he’s on the verge of hitting his peak.
This potential will surely also earn him a move to a bigger club. Indeed, a club with the history, reputation and financial fortitude of Manchester United could prove to be a good fit. Even if The Red Devils can’t offer him Champions League football next season (which is a distinct possibility), the player in question would still see the move as a step up.
According to the aforementioned source, Herrmann has a £14.5m release clause written into his Monchengladbach contract. But fret not, United fans. It’s thought that he could be available for as little as £10.8m next summer.
If that’s not enough to tempt Louis Van Gaal into a deal, I don’t know what is. The Dutchman needs quality in the centre-of-the-park and he may well have found the perfect man for the job. Now he just needs to close the deal.
What’s your take? Should Manchester United be looking at more experienced players? Would Patrick Herrmann be a good fit for the club?
