Image for Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold sheds light on Emerson Royal criticism

Alasdair Gold has revealed he was left feeling sorry for the Tottenham Hotspur full-back, Emerson Royal, following their victory on the weekend.

Spurs got back to winning ways on Saturday as they completed yet another trip to the north of England as they won in emphatic fashion against Leeds United.

Does Emerson deserve more time to settle?

Yes

No

No

However, speaking on his latest YouTube video, Gold claimed there had been a slight tarnish on the result after the Brazilian right-back received some criticism on Instagram for his post.

The right-back posted an image of him baring down on Illan Meslier’s goal after coming on late in the game with the caption: “Good game.”

But many Spurs fans picked up on the image coming from the golden opportunity the 23-year-old had to extend the Lilywhites’ lead with some leaving frustrated messages in the comments section, to Gold’s disliking.

He said: “He didn’t really look like he was ever going to score. I felt a bit sorry for him because maybe slightly misguidedly, he used an image of that moment on his Instagram and clearly got a lot of flak back and had to limit the replies to his Instagram post.

“I always think that’s so sad when players have to do that because they’re just getting abuse. Like I say, maybe don’t use that photo, however, it doesn’t really excuse some of the comments I saw underneath his post before he switched off the replies or limited them.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We have to agree with Gold in disagreeing with some fans leaving such comments on the player’s Instagram post and it certainly will provide the player with no help.

Emerson has struggled massively since joining Tottenham having only been able to record one assist over his 32 appearances for the north London club (via Transfermarkt).

Undoubtedly, this is a poor return but it is worth remembering he is still in the early stages of his career in England and has not even been at the club for a year.

So commenting abusive messages on his Instagram posts will not help the matter at all, and were incredible unnecessary considering Antonio Conte’s men were 3-0 up in the 84th minute when the chance arose.
