Journalist Chris Waugh has claimed that Newcastle United are now actively looking into the loan market ahead of January.
The loan market used to be a very valuable – and sometimes the only – tool Newcastle could use under Mike Ashley having struck up several deals on a temporary basis over the years including Joe Willock, Matt Targett, Danny Rose and Nabil Bentaleb.
However, in two transfer windows under PIF, Newcastle have made just one such signing which was Matt Targett, but due to Financial Fair Play regulations, the Magpies are seemingly now intent on going back in for temporary moves.
That is according to Waugh, who’s spoken on the latest episode of Pod on the Tyne about Newcastle’s desire to attack the loan market next month.
He said: “They’re going to be looking at loans to potentially bring in as well, so that is a market they’re actively looking to explore given those FFP considerations; maybe a loan with an option to buy or something like that.”

TIF Thoughts on Newcastle wanting loan deals…
It makes a lot of sense that Newcastle and PIF want to bring in players on loan as it allows them to essentially try before they buy, but also allows them to still improve their squad while not breaching FFP regulations.
The Magpies are set to be bullish during the January transfer window according to reports, so exploring loan deals would also add up, but they could be forced into agreeing on obligations to buy come the summer, which is risky as it’s not a given that a new signing will fit into Newcastle and the Premier League.
Newcastle fans won’t likely be too fussed about what their club’s transfer strategy is in January as they will wholeheartedly trust PIF, Howe and Dan Ashworth to strike up the right deals as they have done over the last two transfer windows and completely transformed their football club in the process.
