Leeds United defender Robin Koch has been slammed by Sky Sports regular Ally McCoist for his poor defending in Wednesday night’s defeat at Elland Road.
Jesse Marsch’s men had a disappointing return to the Premier League following the World Cup break as they suffered a second successive defeat in the league.
Shortly after the break, Erling Haaland finally got his inevitable goal against the side his father used to play for, but it was the build-up to the goal which frustrated McCoist.
A slack pass from Liam Cooper was partnered with poor awareness from Koch, who thought he had more time on the ball than he actually did.
Instead of dealing with Cooper’s pass, Koch saw Jack Grealish steal the ball off him before the City ace squared to the Norweigian, who slotted into an empty net, much to McCoist’s frustration during Amazon Prime’s coverage:
“Koch just gets caught ball-watching. He’s not aware, as I said, of Grealish coming in on his blind side. You cannot do that against any opposition – particularly this opposition.”

We can absolutely see why McCoist was left frustrated with the German’s defending with such lethargic play giving one of the best sides in the world a very simple second goal on the night.

Although no fan will go into a game accepting their side will lose, there is no shame in losing against this Manchester City side.
However, at only 1-0, Leeds were still well within the game, and giving away such an easy goal all but put the game to bed – and it was certainly something which was avoidable for Marsch’s men.
As for Koch, it is difficult to understand why he thought he had so much time to deal with Cooper’s pass, and it is something the Whites will need to avoid in their upcoming clash against a Newcastle United side who are riding a real wave of confidence.
