Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams has hailed Jesse Marsch’s tactical nous as ‘very underrated’ having reunited with the American in West Yorkshire.
The 23-year-old was speaking to NBC Sports ahead of their Premier League clash on Wednesday night as they returned to action following the World Cup break.
Adams spoke to the American outlet pitchside at Elland Road as he was unable to play due to the suspension he picked up in the final game before the break against Tottenham Hotspur.
And it seems his team could have done with him on the night, as the Whites suffered a 3-1 defeat against the current Premier League champions.
Despite Leeds being well among the Premier League relegation scrap, Adams took the opportunity to hail Marsch, having linked up with him once again in the summer.
He said: “I think that his tactical knowledge of the game is probably very underrated. I think who he learned from through the Red Bull system were some amazing managers and how they were tactically sound and what they did with the ball, without the ball.
“A lot of his game and emphasis is on against the ball. And obviously, the teams that he’s managed are very, very good against the ball.”

Adams has now played 84 times under the American manager having previously played under Marsch during his time at New York Red Bulls and RB Leipzig.

So there are probably not too many more players who would be in a better position to speak about Marsch’s ability as a manager than Adams.
However, for some Leeds fans, the table may speak louder than some of Adams’ comments, with the West Yorkshire side yet again among the sides battling to keep their top-flight status.
And despite only managing a fraction of the Premier League games that Marcelo Bielsa did, the American’s points-per-game average is already lower than his predecessor’s.
That said, it seems the players have faith in Marsch and it will be interesting to see how his future pans out if results fail to improve.
