Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a transfer move for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
After scoring 34 goals and delivering 25 assists in 153 appearances for Fiorentina, the 25-year-old joined his current club on an initial loan deal in October 2020 before joining permanently in the following summer window.
With 69 appearances for the Old Lady under his belt, Chiesa has found the net 19 times and supplied 16 assists.
Despite only becoming a permanent Juventus player during the previous summer transfer window, the Italy international, who was hailed as a ‘phenomenon’, has found himself on Liverpool’s radar.
According to a recent report from CalcioMercatoWeb, Jurgen Klopp is interested in signing the Juventus star after being unimpressed with Mohamed Salah’s season so far.
The report also adds that the Reds would need to offer at least €60m (£52m) to land the Italian winger, who now has 64 club goals to his name throughout his career.
Having missed the first few months of the season with injury issues, the attacker has still managed to show how much of a goal threat he can be as he’s scored one goal and provided two assists in eight appearances.
The Juventus figure has also shown his goalscoring efforts on the international stage as he scored two goals in seven appearances across Italy’s Euro 2020 campaign.
Would you take Federico Chiesa at Liverpool?
Yes
No
In fact, his performances throughout the tournament were described as being “absolutely magnificent” by journalist Benedict Spence on Twitter.
Interestingly, the Reds had an offer of £86 million rejected for the attacker back in 2021, so Klopp clearly likes what he sees.
Taking all of this into account, it’s easy to see why Klopp would want to have Chiesa in his squad, especially as a potential long-term replacement for Salah.
With the Egyptian only scoring one goal in his six previous Premier League games, it’s easy to see why Klopp may be looking at a player like the Italy winger.
However, with Salah still having over two years left on his contract at Anfield, and with Klopp having the likes of Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota as some of his other attacking options, perhaps signing another winger may not be totally necessary at the moment.
