According to The Express, Manchester United are on the verge of signing highly-rated teenager Luca Ercolani; whilst The Sun report that Newcastle United are ready to launch a £12million bid for Tottenham Hotspur’s Andros Townsend.
The Red Devils were linked with the 16-year-old last summer and he appears to be on their radar once again amid a youth recruitment drive at Old Trafford. United fear they’ve fallen behind local rivals Manchester City in English football’s academy pecking order and are desperate to bolster the quality of their youth squads.
Citing Italian website Sport Romagna, The Express claim the teenager – who currently plies his trade with Forli in Serie D – is on the verge of becoming an official United player in a deal worth around £55,000.

Meanwhile, The Sun report that Newcastle United are ready to launch a £12million bid for Tottenham Hotspur winger Andros Townsend.
The England international hasn’t featured for Mauricio Pochettino’s side since a Europa League outing in October and appears to be surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane. He’s reportedly requested to leave the club on loan this month but the Magpies are keen to sign him permanently.
They see the 24-year-old as an ideal replacement for summer signing Florian Thauvin, who could leave on loan to Marseille this month, whilst fellow winger Yoan Gouffran could also be moving to Ligue 1 with Lille.
Steve McClaren is now ready to launch a £12million bid in the hope of opening contract talks with the England international over the weekend. But Spurs reportedly rate Townsend at £14million and are reluctant to budge on their valuation.
