Out - David De Gea

According to The Guardian, Newcastle United have been told they must meet Tottenham Hotspur’s £14million valuation of Andros Townsend; whilst The Daily Star report that Manchester United’s David De Gea will reject any approach from Real Madrid this month.

Towsend hasn’t featured for the Lilywhites since a Europa League outing in October and hasn’t completed a full Premier League match in nearly two years. The England international has resultantly requested to leave White Hart Lane on loan this month to improve his chances of making it into Roy Hodgson’s Euro 2016 squad, but the north London club are only interested a moving him on permanently.

Newcastle United launched a £12million bid last week in the hope of concluding the deal over the weekend, but The Guardian claim Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is refusing to budge on his £14million valuation of the 24-year-old winger. Consequentially, the Magpies look set to turn to cheaper alternatives with Aston Villa’s Scott Sinclair and QPR’s Matt Phillips on the club’s radar.

Meanwhile, The Daily Star report that Manchester United’s David De Gea will snub any approach from Real Madrid during the January transfer window.

The Spain international came close to joining the Bernabeu ranks in the summer until a deal offering £25million and Keylor Navas in exchange missed La Liga’s 11pm deadline on the final day of the transfer window. Los Blancos were expected to revive their interest in the Red Devils’ No1 at the end of the season but their two-window transfer embargo – handed them to them by FIFA for breaching rules regarding the transfer of minors – has lead to speculation they could launch a bid this month instead.

De Gea’s contract is also said to include a £30million release clause, which is well within the La Liga giants’ financial reach. But according to The Daily Star, the 25-year-old has told the United hierarchy and a number of his team-mates that he’ll be leaving Old Trafford for the Spanish capital under no circumstances this month. The former Atletico star has recorded 48 saves and eight clean sheets in 18 Premier League appearances this season.
