Newcastle fans are divided on Twitter as to whether signing Everton ace James McCarthy would be a good piece of business or not.
The St James’ Park faithful’s messages came after Bleacher Report correspondent Dean Jones claimed on his personal Twitter account that their club were set to battle it out with West Brom and Leicester for the 26-year-old central midfielder’s signature.
Jones also reported that the Toffees have slapped a £25million price tag on McCarthy, who missed the majority of last campaign through injury.
West Brom, Newcastle and Leicester among clubs interested in Everton's James McCarthy – but been told he's got a £25m price-tag

The Republic of Ireland international failed to make much of an impact on Merseyside last term, making just 13 appearances across all competitions.
He arrived at Goodison Park in the summer of 2013 in a £13million switch from Wigan, and he has since played 126 league and cup games for the club, which have yielded six goals and 10 assists.
The Toon supporters are split on whether McCarthy would be a good signing or not, some fans believe he would make a fine addition, while others say there are better options available for the price.

I think James McCarthy is worth the price tag considering his epl pedegree and age. @Nufc shud go all out for him.

We really need an experienced def CM. Colback not up to the job. Nor is anyone else on the #nufc books. I'd go for James McCarthy.

Good he is over priced and overrated.. Mccarthy n shelvey at CM.. one paced and not the improvement we need for that outlay

We were never gonna pay 25 million for him & rightly so too! 12 million for Delph is a much better option!! #Nufc

James McCarthy is the type of player I'd love at #NUFC. He's not worth 25m but the market is mad, you may need to pay it or languish behind

At £25m for a squad player he's no target of ours

25 million for Mcarthy, #nufc better off getting Delp who will offer more passing range than Mcarthy as a deep playmaker. Cost half as well.

McCarthy has been capped by the Republic of Ireland on 41 occasions, but he has not featured since the 3-1 World Cup qualifying win over Moldova in October of last year.
